Fast WiFi is available throughout, and coin-operated laundry is on-site.

Ocean Whisper Guesthouse is conveniently located near the hospital and K&K Island Pride Supermarket. There are also a few resident cats roaming the property, for what that's worth.

Eneko Island Getaway is the type of accommodation you came to a remote atoll to experience; think aqua-blue lagoon, endless white sand, and unmatched serenity once the day-trippers leave...

Eneko, managed by Hotel Robert Reimers, is just a 20-minute boat ride from Majuro.

The island offers three standard rooms in one cottage and one standalone beachfront cottage, all simple but functional: fan, beds, shower and sink. There's a central kitchen, and a caretaker is always on-site, so you're never entirely on your own (just bring all your own food and drinks, and yes, we do mean all of it).

No hot water and no guaranteed WiFi, though if you have a local SIM card, the network should reach you. The island is also popular with day trippers, but nothing beats the feeling of having the island to yourself once the crowd leaves.

The best snorkelling is on the lagoon side, right out front. The island is also a conservation area, so fishing from shore and breaking coral are strictly off-limits.

One of the best-known accommodations in Majuro might be the most expensive of our list of budget accommodations in Majuro and the Marshall Islands, but at around US$125 per night, Marshall Islands Resort (MIR) also offers one of the more convenient options in the captial.

Rooms come in three types: "Single", "Double" and "Suite", all with ensuite bathrooms. The "Suite" steps things up with cooking facilities, making it a solid pick for those wanting a little more independence during their stay.

On-site, you'll find the Enra Restaurant and Dock Bar. There's also a bakery, spa and a local market operating within the resort grounds, though these are independently run businesses.

Free WiFi is available for all guests (request a voucher at the front desk), and laundry service is offered in-room. Items such as hair dryers, ironing boards and irons are available upon request. An airport shuttle is available for a small fee per transfer.

For those keen to get out on the water, Raycrew Dive operates from the resort. The resort also offers car hire (SUV only, with a limited fleet of four to five vehicles), so book ahead if you're planning to get behind the wheel and explore.

MIDB Wotje Lodge is a no-frills guesthouse on Wotje Atoll, offering simple, practical accommodation for travellers making their way through one of the Marshall Islands' more remote atolls.

Run by the Marshall Islands Development Bank, the lodge has four rooms in total: one single-bed room and three twin-bed rooms, each charged per bed rather than per room, all for a very affordable price.

Shared facilities include a kitchenette and a common dining area, keeping things functional and communal. The lodge also shares the building with the island's BOMI branch and postal office, which makes it something of a quiet hub for the local community.

Accommodation options this far out in the Marshalls are genuinely sparse, so MIDB Wotje Lodge fills an important gap for anyone venturing beyond the more travelled atolls.
